Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. Introduction

SpendView ("we", "our", "us") is a mobile application that helps users track their personal expenses through voice input and AI-powered categorization. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information securely and responsibly.

This Privacy Policy describes:

  • What information we collect
  • How we use it
  • Where it is stored
  • When it is shared
  • Your rights and choices

By using SpendView, you agree to this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Voice and Audio Data

SpendView captures your voice input for the sole purpose of converting speech into expense transactions. Audio is processed using on-device speech recognition provided by your device's operating system. We do not record, store, or transmit raw audio recordings to our servers.

Transcribed text derived from your voice input is used to extract expense details (name, amount, category) and is stored as part of your transaction data.

2.2 Transaction and Financial Data

To provide the core functionality of the app, we store the expense data you log, including:

  • Expense amounts
  • Expense names or descriptions
  • Category assignments
  • Date and time of entry
  • Budget limits you configure

This data is associated with your account and stored securely in our database.

2.3 Account Information

SpendView requires an account to sync and store your data. We collect the information you provide when signing in, which may include your name and email address via third-party sign-in providers such as Google.

2.4 Metadata

We may process minimal metadata such as:

  • Device model and OS version
  • App version
  • Error logs and crash reports

Metadata is used only for diagnostics and improving app reliability.

2.5 Subscription Information

Subscription purchases are handled by Apple or Google. We receive limited data such as:

  • Product identifier
  • Subscription status
  • Renewal status

We do not collect or store payment card information.

2.6 Bank Connections

SpendView optionally lets you connect a bank account so that new transactions are imported for you to review instead of being entered by hand. Bank connections are established through Plaid Inc., a regulated financial data provider. This feature is entirely optional and the app is fully usable without it.

Your bank login credentials are never seen, handled, or stored by SpendView. You enter them directly with Plaid or with your bank, and SpendView receives only an access token that allows transaction data to be retrieved.

When you connect a bank, we receive and store:

  • Account metadata: the account name, type and subtype (for example "Checking"), and the last four digits of the account number
  • Transactions: the amount, date, currency, merchant or description, and the category assigned by Plaid

We do not receive or store:

  • Full account numbers or routing numbers
  • Bank login credentials
  • Account statements
  • Identity or profile information held by your bank

Account balances are returned by Plaid alongside the account metadata above, but SpendView does not use or store them. They are discarded and never written to our database.

When you authorize a connection, your bank may display a consent screen listing broader categories of data — such as account numbers, statements or profile information. That screen describes the access granted between your bank and Plaid, not what SpendView receives. SpendView requests only transaction data, and Plaid passes on only what we request. The additional categories listed on that screen are never shared with us.

You can disconnect a bank at any time from within the app. Disconnecting revokes our access and deletes the stored accounts for that connection. Plaid's own handling of your data is governed by their privacy policy.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Convert your voice input into expense transactions
  • Import transactions from a bank you have chosen to connect, for you to review
  • Categorize and organize your spending
  • Display charts, trends, and budget progress
  • Sync your data across your devices
  • Improve app performance and reliability
  • Detect and prevent misuse or technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for:

  • Advertising or marketing to third parties
  • Profiling or behavioral tracking
  • Selling or renting data
  • Training AI models on your personal financial data

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Cloud Storage

Your transaction data, categories, and account information are stored securely in our cloud infrastructure. We employ industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS)
  • Encryption at rest
  • Access controls and authentication
  • Data minimization practices

4.2 Voice Processing

Voice input is processed locally on your device using the operating system's built-in speech recognition engine. Raw audio is not uploaded to SpendView servers. Only the resulting transcribed text is sent to our servers for expense extraction.

4.3 AI Processing

Transcribed text may be sent to a third-party AI provider to extract expense details such as name, amount and category. This data is used solely to perform the requested action and is not retained or used for model training.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties except as described below.

5.1 Service Providers

We work with trusted service providers to operate the app, including cloud infrastructure, AI processing, and — if you choose to connect a bank — Plaid Inc. for financial data access. These providers are required to:

  • Use data solely to perform the contracted service
  • Not retain user data beyond what is necessary
  • Not use your data for their own purposes

5.2 Legal Compliance

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SpendView and its users.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

6.1 Your Data

Your transaction data and account information are retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete individual transactions or your entire account at any time from within the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

6.2 Voice and Transcription Data

Raw audio is never stored by SpendView. Transcribed text used for expense extraction is processed and stored only as the resulting transaction record — not as raw transcription logs.

6.3 Bank Connection Data

Disconnecting a bank in the app revokes our access with Plaid and deletes the stored account records for that connection, along with any imported transactions still awaiting your review. Deleting your account does the same for every bank you have connected. Imported transactions you have already reviewed and saved remain in your account as ordinary expense records, and can be deleted individually or by deleting your account.

7. Children's Privacy

SpendView is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
